I am sorry that you are experiencing this problem, this is very unusual for it to happen, so I would recommend using another device or another browser to request the repair again and if the problem still persists using another Device/Browser try to create a mobile access point to share the internet from your phone to your PC.

Surely there is a work around - I’ve tried logging in on other devices and using a private browser on Edge- why does a picture of a melted ice pop appear - it’s the most nonsensical annoying graphic ever - what does it even mean?

It's possible that the console could experience some graphic issues but it's not likely. I'd take it to a retailer and see if they could speculate whats wrong if they say it's the graphics card inside the console and you are still under warranty they'll
replace it. But if you aren't under warranty you'll need to request repairs and ship it too the location you need too ship too.

Glowstone also melts ice..

I have a huge ice spike going through my liver. No drinking for me until that ice melts!
