Can't connect to Forza 4 online sessions

I've seen this question several times online but I haven't seen a conclusive answer. I'm posting in hopes to clear this up once and for all.

I'm playing Forza 4 on PC, Win10, and I can't connect to Horizon Live sessions whatsoever. I've completed all the seasons and gotten onto the Horizon Roster, etc, I have 10 hours in the game so it has nothing to do with in-game achievements. Forza Support has been no help either, saying the problem is my antivirus (it's not). When trying to join friends' sessions, it attempts to join for several minutes, then gives up. Same with joining an online session in general. I've attached a screenshot of an error message I get whenever I try to join.

It always lists my region as somewhere random like Brazil, Asia, or Europe, I'm in USA. Maybe that has something to do with it? No VPN or antivirus is active when I play the game.

Any help would be appreciated! Happy to provide more info, just not sure what's relevant.

Hi Tali, thanks so much for getting back to me! I appreciate the tips and I tried both steps. Unfortunately, I seem to be getting the same error message despite changing my profile location and DNS settings.

Thank you for contacting the Xbox support forums and for providing details regarding your error. It is possible that the region is the primary cause of the error you're receiving.

Step One: Ensure that your account is set to the correct region
1) Sign in to your account at Microsoft Account

2) Select "Your Info" from the blue banner at the top of the page
3) From here, you should see "Country or region" under your profile info
4) Select "Edit profile info" and adjust all details regarding your country or region and set it to United States. This includes adjusting your time zone, city, etc. Any relevant information for your region.

If this does not resolve the issue, please see below for the second troubleshooting step.

Step Two: Change your DNS Server
1) Open your PC Settings by selecting the Windows icon on your device then look for the Settings cogwheel
2) Select Network and Internet

3) Select WiFi, or it may say Ethernet depending on how you are connected to the internet

4) Select Network Connection
5) Under IP Settings, select the edit button

6) Select the Edit IP settings drop down menu and select the manual option

7) Turn on the IPv4 toggle switch

8) Type your "Preferred DNS" and "Alternate DNS" addresses. I will list a few DNS settings below, but it is suggested to review accurate DNS options for your area. You can find additional details on how to adjust this setting at: Change TCP/IP Settings

If you're using Google Public DNS, OpenDNS, or CloudFlare, you can use these settings:
Google Public DNS: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
OpenDNS: 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220
Cloudflare: 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1

9) Select the Save button and restart your PC

After you restart, the new DNS settings should take effect. If the issue persists, please let us know if you are receiving the same error so we may attempt to troubleshoot further.

Hello! I have the exact same issue, I can't connect to a live session in Forza Horizon 4. I have a VPN installed because of WFH, and I suspect that's why I can't connect for some reason. I use FortiCLient VPN 6.2.6.0951

its not like i have any problem getting into partys its more that i cant connect to online game servers like forza 4 for instance it just says trying to connect to a session on the top of my screen and thats all it does.

Are you having any connection issues with other games as well, or is it specifically on Forza Horizon 4 only?

If you try a Horizon Solo session, and then try to switch online, does it give you the same error message?
