Can't connect my one s through HDMI to receiver

One bit of clarification, the XB1 connects to my receiver through HDMI, not optical audio.

Tried resetting display settings, didn't work. Tested on other HDTV (direct connection with HDMI, different cable), worked fine. Retested on my HDTV, through receiver with different cable, not fine. Retested with same cable, direct connection, worked.

Issue, won't display properly on HDTV when passed through receiver, even though it had as of about midnight CST, while other HDMI devices connected to receiver have no problems. This is an issue because my HDTV only has one HDMI port.

Sorry to hear the troubles you're having! To check, are you passing your Xbox One through a receiver or are you outputting the audio from your TV to a receiver?

everything is running thru my receiver. I have a projector setup in my room and the xbox one s is connected via hdmi to the receiver and then a i have another HDMI from receiver to projector. Again the subwoofer works fine for movies but doesn't for everything
else? Seems like it has to be a settings issue but I'm scratching my head as to what it is?

I should also mention this is only an issue with the Xbox one s, I have an Apple TV and the subwoofer works just fine all the time with that.

I did some trobleshooting and futher research on this subject. I have an older Denon receiver that does not accept HDMI, so I connected my XBOX One to my TV via an HDMI cable and then connected my TV to my receiver via an optical cable. Apparently LG TVs
like the one I have do not have the capability to take 5.1 surround sound input from HDMI and output it through the optical. So, I will have to wait until Microsoft provides Dolby Digital support through the optical out on the XBOX One.

Basic setup with an audio/video receiver

With an audio/video (A/V) receiver, the best and most direct option is to connect the devices sequentially:

1.Connect your set-top box HDMI output to the Xbox One HDMI input.

2.Connect the Xbox One HDMI output to your A/V HDMI input.

3.Connect your A/V HDMI output to the HDMI input on your television.

Notes

•This option requires that all devices support audio over HDMI.

•Surround sound from your set-top box will not be passed through the Xbox One.

•When you perform this kind of basic setup with an A/V receiver, you’re passing both audio and video through another device. Depending on your equipment, there is a small risk of audio or video lag.
