Cant connect controller to laptop

I have my xbox one controller and my laptop, I am using a cord to connect it, when I plug it in while its flashing it will vibrate once, then a few seconds later it will vibrate a second time, but nothing works with it and it continues flashing, i need
help

Hi. my windows 10 and xbox one wireless controller are updated. same issue cant connect wirelessly and windows pairs even when my controller is turned off/not even plugged to laptop.

You cant unless your laptop has an hdmi input connection. Most laptops only have an hdmi output connection.

Only high end gaming laptops such as Alienware laptops tend to have that.
