Can't claim gamertag that has been reserved, then deleted/changed to something else

Hello,

I would like to know if I can claim a Gamertag that I reserved on another Xbox account. Is that possible?

Here's the story:

A while back, before getting an Xbox, I decided that I should have a unique Gamertag that would be used on all my gaming platforms/apps/stores. After some thought (which took me a few days), I came up with a perfect Gamertag. So, I went on every platform
that I was already signed up with and changed the username/ID/Gamertags to my desired Gamertag. Yes, unfortunately, some of the platforms required me to pay. Everything went well until I got to my Xbox account.

You see, I already had an Xbox account. So, me being stupid, and possibly because I didn't want to spend any more money, I decided to create a different Xbox account with my very unique, very perfect, Gamertag.

Now that I got an Xbox, I decided to change the Gamertag on the other account (the one with the desired Gamertag) so that I could free it and use the Gamertag on my main account.

But, when I tried to change the Gamertag to what I wanted it to be, it said that it was not available (maybe because of the new Gamertag system).

I tried to contact support but they hang up and tell me to go here.

The limit with the new system is 12 characters so if the gamertag you are trying to add to the new account is above that may be the reason you are getting this message.

Unfortunately if this is the case there is no one that can get you the gamertag above 12 characters.

The reservation means that someone else has already claimed that gtag or has purchased it and is waiting for the change to occur. You just have to use your fantasy and get a gtag that is not claimed or reserved by anybody else.

There is no way to completely delete an account once it has been connected to the servers. You would have to have access to the account and change the gamertag to something else in order to free it up for use on a different account.

Gamertags can't be deleted. You could change your current gamertag to something else, then have another MS account and change it to the original gamertag. However, you would still be faced with paying the gamertag change fee for the original account which
is what I believe you are wanting to avoid.

The 7 year timeframe has never been 100% proven as fact. I've seen a lot of people mention that support has told them that, but never seen any information to support that claim. From what I understand, once a gamertag is on the servers, it's there for good
unless you change the tag to something else or Microsoft releases them. The only time Microsoft has ever announced that they were releasing gamertags was when they purged the original Xbox tags.
