cant change the install folder for second drive in xbox app, it just keeps swapping back to...

I think I know what the problem with this game was - I have a gaming drive (E and a Windows installation drive (C. the Xbox app on pc always tries to default back to C: drive even if you set E: in settings. When the game updated and was installing, I noticed it was installing to the incorrect C: drive. I quickly changed this to E: in settings and hoped it would be ok, seeing as only a small amount of data had started to install.

I think that's where it went wrong.

Anyway, do you know why the drive keeps defaulting back to the Windows installation drive (C for game installs even when you change the drive in Xbox App settings? It's very annoying having to keep remembering to make sure it's changed to the E: drive whenever I need to install anything.

Because of this defaulting the Xbox app also keeps placing an 'XboxGames' folder in my C: root, which I have to keep on deleting before I change the game save drive to E: in the Xbox app settings, so the games are installed to the correct XboxGames folder in E:.

I resolved issue by moving my WindowsApps folder inside another temp folder, then installed MSFS to the same drive where it made another WindowsApps folder which competed the installation, I then just moved the original files from the temp Apps folder back
to the new one. Sounds simple, but I had a lot faffing about to do as moving the windowsapps folder had files inside being used by other programs like the xbox beta app and not having permissions for files and folders, a google search helped in fixing those
issues which was simple in the end.

Only other way of doing it is a clean install of windows i'm afraid

Forgot to mention, have you changed the default location of windows store apps? as choosing my drive and clicking install did absolutely nothing untill I change default apps location

I believe since you already installed games on the D: drive, the Xbox app will always recreate this folder since you might install games on this drive in the future.

The only option you could try to do is to change the default folder (not drive) inside the Xbox app to something else (like Games, for example). But I still think the Xbox app will still recreate the folder (Games, in our example here) on your D: drive.

resetting windows or re installing renders all xbox app games inoperable as the folder is encrypted to that one install of windows.

you have to re download all the xbox app games again.

go setting, storage, location and change it to that drive this should then state there is a folder there and it will be removed.

if not google remove windows app folder from drive as you have to take ownership to remove it.

These folders are required by the Xbox app and Microsoft Store in order to install and run your games. 2 of them must be located at the root of the drive, unfortunately they cannot be moved to a custom folder.

The XboxGames folder can be moved. Open the Xbox app, click your profile in to the top right and select Settings > Install Options. From here you can choose the default drive to install games on, and select 'Change Folder' to move the XboxGames folder to a different location.
