Can't change the channel without Kinect plugged in

Just as the title states. Is Microsoft serious with this? I have no use for my Kinect nor do I want it. Just a gimmick that I don't need. I unplug it seeing as how I haven't even used it since it came out of the box and I can't even change channels on TV
without it plugged in? Is there a workaround or something for this where I don't have to buy an extra cable? This is truly ridiculous!

IR port not working with Kinect disconnected... can't change channels with separate IR emitter cable?

I don't want to use the Kinect, but still want to change channels. I used an IR emitter cable and plugged it into the IR OUT 3.5mm port on the back of the Xbox One. But when I select a channel in the OneGuide, I get a pop-up message saying "We can't change
channels. Hold "Home" button for more info"... selecting that just takes me to Kinect setup saying I need to have Kinect plugged in. So can you use the IR port without the Kinect to control my cable box? Could I have a bad IR emitter cable?

One Guide won't change channels AT&T Uverse

You can't change channels without the kinect or an IR cable. The kinect is what sends the IR signal to the box.

Sorry to hear about the channel changing issue. Try to set up OneGuide again, but this time without the Kinect sensor plugged in. To get to those settings, follow these instructions:

Press the menu button on your Xbox One controller and select Settings.

From the Setting menu, select TV & OneGuide.

From here, select Troubleshooting and 'Reset TV settings'.

From this point you can set up OneGuide, but this time do it without the Kinect Sensor plugged in.

Try those steps and let us know how it goes!

Glennmark, did you find the inside of the kinect to be dirty. Mine is doing this. Sometimes in comes back on, sometimes it doesn't . If it doesn't, I have to unplug it for a few seconds and then plug it back in.

Strangely, it will still IR blast my cable box and change channels. Although it will tell me it can't change channels because the kinect is not present. Weird.

Make sure your cable provider is set up in the settings.

To use the controller simply hit X to bring up the One Guide to change channels.

SmartGlass will have a remote icon in the lower right corner that will allow you to navigate the One Guide with SmartGlass.
