    Can't change my privacy settings for Xbox and can't use in-game voice chat as a result.


    I have been enjoying playing Sea of Thieves on my PC for many months now, however, no matter what I do I am unable to hear other people talk in proximity chat or game chat even if they are in the same party as me, unless I am friends with them in the game. When I play with my friend, I can hear him just fine, but if I play with random people or encounter them randomly, I am completely unable to hear them and it would seem they are unable to hear me. The voice chat indicator pops up in my screen saying that I'm transmitting audio, but it seems that nobody can hear it. When I look at my Xbox privacy settings, under 'You can communicate outside of Xbox Live with voice & text" it the friends bullet is highlighted, and when I try to change it and then save it, sometimes it will say that it saved successfully, and sometimes it will say that an error occurred. Either way, when I go to play the game and then look at the settings again, it will always have , reverted to the friend only box being checked. I also try to change the setting that says: "Others can communicate with voice, text, or invites" but teh same issue happens.

    it used to be part of your privacy settings where you set voice/ chat etc to friends only can't see it here atm but about to go on mine shall have a good look about and get back to you soon

    Kinect not working for Chat?

    Make sure that the setting is activated for this - go to Settings > Kinect and verify the 'use for game chat' box is ticked.

    In privacy settings, also make sure that voice communication is set to 'Everyone' as that could also be the cause, if it works in party chat and for voice commands, but not in public game-chat.

    This is because you're underage or used the wrong age when setting up the account, Unfortunately once an age is set it's permanent. While the system will let you change the age anytime, It only recognizes the age you used when you set up the account. This
    is to prevent kids from just changing their ages to bypass things. You will need your parents help or you will have to send in an age change request form and see what they say.
