Can’t change Gamertag to available name?

So my gamertag used to be “So Skuxx”, at the moment it’s “ImBroBro” but it’s only for an inside joke, and I’ve been wanting to change my name to “Skux” or “Skuxx”. Both gamertags say they’re unavailable when their entered, when I search up “Skuxx” I can
see it’s taken by an inactive account, when I search up “Skux” no account pops up. I’ve tried talking to Customer Support but I was told that somebody had previously had the name, and that once a name has been taken by an account (even if it’s not the current
name) it can’t be changed to that forever, which is a total lie considering I’ve even tried testing this theory. What I atleast want to know if I can’t have any help, is why I am not able to change it to “Skux”, it doesn’t break any of the guidelines or anything?

Gamertag can’t change

I tried changing my gamertag on the Xbox website and it said that it’s restricted through parental controls. I had my parent try to get rid of parental controls a long time ago but it still won’t work. Can anyone help?

Sign into Xbox LIVE and go to the My Xbox channel, then select Change Gamertag. From here you can either choose from the random name generator, or you can enter a specific Gamertag to see if it’s available.

Unfortunately if the system says a tag is taken, then that means it is in use somewhere on Microsoft servers. The tag system is in use on other Microsoft services so even if it's not in use on an Xbox, it may be in use somewhere else. The system also doesn't
see things like spaces as making a gamertag unique. So while you're looking up Skux and doesn't show up, it is in use as S K U X

Yeah it worked, as soon as I changed my other gamertag the name was available.

The free gamertag change is only available for the first 30 days of having the gamertag. Since it's been longer than that you'd have to pay the 800 points to change the name.

Unfortunately you wont be able to revert back to your old gamertag.

If you are trying to change the gamertag back to the old one and it is says its not available then its not available.

The problem is this MS made a new policy change where any new gamertags including changes in gamertags have a limit of 12 characters.

The old gamertag is 14 characters so this is why it is not available for you to change your gamertag back.
