Can't activate payment card Xbox live subscription for 12 months

You can purchase 5 years of Live Gold membership on 5 12 month cards and activate each one as each year expires. Or you can activate 3 12 month cards and have a total of 36 months of maximum subscription and then activate the 2 12 month cards.

Really? the whole point of pre-paid codes is to allow anyone to subscribe/use the service even if they don't have a debit/credit card. Unless something has changed, I don't think you need a payment method to use a pre-paid code.

You may need a billing address, but not a payment method. Correct me if I'm wrong.
