    I have an old Xbox live account that I didn’t need anymore and wanted to “delete” it because I wanted to use the gamertag on another account. So I saw under my Microsoft account settings I can close account. So I closed the account and deleted the Xbox account off my Xbox thinking that it would work. It didn’t. I’m now locked out of the account and 12 years later it still exists even though I’m told inactive accounts get deleted. I’m not sure what to do here I was told by Xbox at one point that the account has an email tied to it but there isn’t. I made a new account with the old email to 100% guarantee there was no connection. I just either want help to access the account again or the account deleted so I can use the gamertag. Someone at Xbox please help!

    Nobody has claimed the account. the account was never deleted. I deleted my Microsoft account which is tied to it removing the email from the account. I honestly think it’s just sitting in their servers with no email attached now. (Unrecoverable) It still has the same information, same gamer picture, and everything that I left on it. It’s been inactive for 12 years with no sign-ins. I also have the account added on my friends list so I can see all of this info.

    I believe that your account being old, the rules were different than today. I believe you can no longer use the gamertag.

    I believe the Gamertag was used by someone else.

    When you cancel your account or change your gamertag, your old gamertag becomes valid so that anyone can use it again, I believe the name is available and someone else took it and is using it.

    Unfortunately I don't know, because you deleted your account a long time ago I don't know what rules worked back then.
