Cannot verify old hotwire.net email

After having my xbox account for over 17 years, I realised that I cannot change the email to my current one. The problem is that when the account was made, my parents made jt for me under the (at the time) hotwire.net domain. Welp that domain is no longer in existence and when I go to change my Microsoft/Xbox email it keeps telling me that I can't add anything or change the primary at all. It continues to give me the message "For security reasons, you need to verify your primary alias before you can add another alias. Alternatively, you could rename your primary alias."

It's a bit hard to verify anything when the previous email domain is now for cars apparently or up for sale Can anybody help me, or is my account just trapped in this old email from years ago?

Sorry to hear about your issues getting into your account. Unfortunately, due to security enhancements and Microsoft’s initiative to make accounts more secure, your older account is harder to recover. You can try using the online account recovery form, and at the bottom of the Reset or Recover your lost Microsoft account password page, there are two sections, “Use the online account recovery form” and “tips for completing the online account recovery form.” If this does not resolve your issue, you will have to create a new account.

Thanks for reaching out to the forums. We understand you are having issue with profile. How long has it been since you changed the email? If recent you have a 30 day wait period, which does limit the account to some degree.

Yes. This is, BTW, a Microsoft Account issue, not an Xbox issue; the Microsoft Account support folk have their own support forum at

I believe the only other option would be to switch the microsoft account associated with your gamertag. See this link under "Can I switch my gamertag to a different Microsoft account?"
