    Cannot verify old email address


    Hi, hope you are all safe and healthy.

    After having my xbox live profile for a whole decade, I decided to finally update my email address to the one I use now.

    Immediately after updating the address and removing the old one, I began having issues with some online services. I can view my friends online, and play games offline. But cannot access the store, or basically anything else. It does not give me any other
    error messages.

    Unfortunately I cannot simply add the old email address back to my account, if that was the root of the issue, because I no longer have access and therefore am unable to verify it.

    I have googled, I have browsed the faqs, I have talked to the AI. Nothing has offered a solution.

    Seeing as I am paying for a service I cannot fully use right now I would like to know how to fix this. Any assistance would be appreciated.

    Thanks for reaching out to the forums. We understand you are having issue with profile. How long has it been since you changed the email? If recent you have a 30 day wait period, which does limit the account to some degree.

    Sorry to hear about your issues getting into your account. Unfortunately, due to security enhancements and Microsoft’s initiative to make accounts more secure, your older account is harder to recover. You can try using the online account recovery form, and at the bottom of the Reset or Recover your lost Microsoft account password page, there are two sections, “Use the online account recovery form” and “tips for completing the online account recovery form.” If this does not resolve your issue, you will have to create a new account.

    Changing gamer tags associated with email addresses.

    The old 360s did not require you to verify the email address (if it was not a MS server email) this is what causes problems like this.

    If you can try this.

    Sign into the old misspelled account at account.microsoft.com/addassocid this should bring up a box saying that you need to verify the email address.

    Under that message there should be a link to change what email address is associated with that account.

    Once you get that changed and it is verified you should then be able to change that gamer tag to something different freeing up that gamertag. Then you should be able to change the gamertag on your new account to the old gamertag.

    you cannot transfer games/DLC or save from one account to another but you can change the account email address. It can be a multi-step process however I do not know that you can make an account a child account once validated as an adult, if that's what
    you want to do.

    update primary email address, make sure it works
