Cannot upload music library to new Xbox one X, says drive full after 20gb transfer

I recently purchased my first xbox, a One X. My intention was to use it as a central media device for both music and games in my living room so I wouldn't have to connect my laptop to our TV. However, I am confused why I cannot upload my entire music collection
into the music folder on the system. I have a music library of around 160gb and the hard drive on the xbox is basically empty. When I use the file transfer app to transfer the library to the music folder from an external drive, it gives a "drive full" message
after only uploading ~20gbs.

I know I could leave an external drive plugged in and play music that way, I'm just not interested in having to buy another external drive for a computer with a 1Tb drive in it.

I know I could use a streaming service, but that is besides the point.

Is the music folder on a small separate partition, hence the drive full error?

Are there limits on how much you can transfer at once onto the system?

:)
I swear I heard somewhere you can only change HDD once...dont know if thats true.
What it really says is that the transfer can only be performed once. In the past, after a successful transfer the source drive was erased.
You couldn't transfer from, say, a 20GB to four different 60GB disks because after the first transfer the 20GB would just be an empty drive.

None of this applies to the new transfer software. You can cancel all the transfer dialogs and manually copy data to/from the Transfer Cable connected drive. It shows up under System Settings, Memory as a Transfer Cable device.

Transferred data from 20 GB hard drive to Flash drive and now I can't transfer files to new hard drive!?

I recently got a new 120 GB hard drive, but lacked a data transfer cable. What I did was I tried to move files from my xbox 360 20GB hard drive to a flash drive but I didn't know I had to configure it first. Now I can't see the files on the flash drive but
yet it says it's full. How do I recover my data?

Can you transfer installed xbox 360 games to another hard drive using a transfer cable?

This is from the Xbox page.

Transfer the fun to your new Xbox 360®. The hard drive transfer cable moves content from any Xbox 360 or hard drive to your new Xbox 360 S or Xbox 360 hard drive. Easily transfer HD movies, music, saved games, player profiles, and even full games installed
on your hard drive. Plus, use the cable over and over if you choose to get a new console or hard drive again in the future.

HDD data transfer problem. HELP!!!

When you transferred the content over to the new hard drive, did you have the old or new hard drive plugged into the transfer cable?

If you had the 120GB hard drive plugged into the transfer cable that may be where the issue is being caused, would you be able to transfer the data back to the 20GB hard drive, plug the 120GB hard drive into your console, format it then try transferring
the data back to the 120GB hard drive with the 20GB hard drive plugged into the transfer cable and the 120GB hard drive plugged into the console.

Scroll down and follow the "Format a storage device":

20GB hard drive not recognised by transfer cable

I don't know if this will help anyone, it may it may not.

i found that by transferring from old (20gb) xbox to the new hard drive works, just take the hard drive out of your new xbox plug in transfer cables and choose the option to transfer FROM xbox, did the trick for me, might do the trick for you.

Dirty laser? How to clean?

If you have enough space on your external HDD, copy everything there from inside the Xbox.

Make sure your saved games are in the cloud. Then on the new one just set your default drive to the external

Open Settings on the Xbox One.

Open the System tab.

Select Storage.

Select the internal drive.

Select Transfer.

Select items you plan to transfer. If moving all items, choose Select all.

Choose Copy selected to copy the items between drives.

To move the items, select Move.

Choose the Ext. drive.

Press Copy or Move to transfer.

After transferring your games to an external hard drive, plug it into the new Xbox One.

Stored should appear in your library.
