Cannot Purchase Xbox Live Gold

Hi everyone! So I made my Microsoft/ xbox account years ago, and without realizing I made it a child account by mistake. I just noticed today because I was about to buy another year of live and it said to request access to family members (and it was also
partially because I was part of an xbox family that has been inactive for a while minus one of the accounts). Regardless, I had to change my age to leave the family since my account was all messed up, and set the settings to adult. The problem is now, when
I try to buy XB live gold, I get an error message saying "Something happened on our end, try again later". Anyone know how to fix this (I was thinking the whole family and child account issue was apart of it)?

You cannot use money to purchase xbox live gold, unfortunately.

A gift card and an Xbox live gold subscription are 2 different things. Currently, currency in your account cannot be used to purchase an Xbox Live Gold subscription. So you would either have to purchase a subscription card or purchase it directly on the
website/Xbox.

 

Let me explain a couple things to you on how MS determines the whether an account is a child account or not.

1. Date of birth (DOB) when the account was ORIGINALLY setup. This is set in stone and even if you go in and change it the system only sees the DOB when it was originally setup.

2. Whether an account is in a family as a child account.

So with that being said until an account reaches its 18 birthday per the DOB when it was originally setup it is required by law to be part of a family as a child account.

The reasoning for that is that an account is required to agree to the MS terms of use for the account (which is a contract) and it is illegal to go into a contract with minors.

The system will allow you to remove yourself from a family as a child but if your DOB when it was originally setup is still under 18 it will not allow you to do anything on the account till you are added back to a family account as a child.
