Cannot communicate or host one friend on Xbox

One friend -- just one -- that we play games with daily suddenly can't connect to games we are hosting or communicate with us. They always could. We have made no change in equipment or software.

We have rebooted Xbox consoles and modems and reset modems to factory with no resolution. Mutual friends can connect and communicate with this one friend but we cannot save an occasional sentence or word that breaks through. Sometimes we can play in games
someone else is hosting but cannot communicate.

Any ideas on how to resolve this strange problem? We used to connect just fine.

Our NAT is set to open.

Xbox error code 0x89234020

I have been getting this error code whenever I try to join or host an Xbox live party on the Xbox one whenever certain friends are in the party. I am unable to communicate with these friends. What should I do?

The host of the world may have it so that `friends of friends` cannot join which means you cannot join because you are not on the hosts friend list.

Hi Gronk,

Thanks for your post, has your friend recently changed routers/modem? At times ISPs can update their internet devices remotely as a security measure to make sure their devices are safe on the internet, unfortunately this can also result in some network protocols
blocked that are needed to connect to Xbox Live. In other words the pathways the Xbox needs to connect to Xbox Live could have been blocked accidentally by the service provider.

Try out using this wizard:
"I need help with my Xbox One network connection" also try reaching out to the Internet Service Provider for information on recent updates that may align with when the issues first started to happen.

Hello Gronk,

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Even though both of your NATs are set to "open" it may still be a networking issue. Is this on Xbox one?

If it is, you may want to try out the "Alternate port selection" settings in your network settings.

Press the Xbox button to open the guide.

Select Settings.

Select All Settings.

Select Network.

Select Network settings.

Select Advanced Settings

Select Alternate port selection and then Manual

From here you would have to select a port and test your nat to make sure it remains on open. Afterwards, try connecting to your friend. You can have your friend follow these same steps for better results. If at anypoint you would like to undo these settings,
Just switch this setting back to Automatic

same, also cannot host games for friends ether

One child hosts the multiplayer world the other child cannot join that world, while on the same WiFi network. A friend of the hosting child CAN join the world via internet connection from a totally different home. I've already verified they can join mutiplayer games via parental controls.
