Cannot buy Minecraft Java for son's new account - says Already Owned

Please try this on the laptop:

1. Sign out from the account on the Xbox app, Minecraft launcher and the Microsoft Store.

2. Reset the Microsoft store cache by using the wreset.exe command.

3. Double check if everything is up-to-date via Windows Settings > Update and Security > Windows Update > get updates.

Additionally, please check for updates by opening the Microsoft store.

4. Once everything is up-to-date. Sign in with the account that owns the game on the Xbox app, Minecraft launcher and the Microsoft Store.

5. Finally, open the Minecraft launcher and verify if you can play the game with your son's account.

I worked out I could purchase it if I selected Deluxe edition, which I didn't really want to do being £10 extra but there's only so many hours I can spend trying to get Minecraft working.

However nothing has changed in Minecraft launcher, it still says 'buy now' for Java edition and only lets us play a demo. So it I've wasted another £35 and my kid still can't play the bloody game.

In the case of Minecraft Java, you will need to purchase Minecraft on your son's account, unfortunately.

"If you are purchasing Minecraft: Java Edition for a child, the child must have their own Minecraft account. And to make the purchase, you must sign in to their account to do so; games cannot be transferred between accounts."

Now, since you purchased it on a Mojang account, maybe they can open an exception for you or give you a discount on the second purchase for your son. You can try to contact their official support:

If you do not already own a Java version account you will need to pay for it.

If you already have a java version account download the Minecraft client then login using that account

That’s odd because if this is the Minecraft for Windows it will be purchased through Microsoft Store. The Minecraft that can be purchased through Mojang is Minecraft Java Edition.

Kindly make sure that you’re signed in under the account where the Mojang account was migrated. Please try other Microsoft accounts as well.

Thanks Francia, maybe i am mistaken and it is java edition that I own.
I would like to add that when I log into minecraft.net and click on 'Get Minecraft' > 'Minecraft Java Edition' it gives me a download option NOT a buy option and says beside it "Already own Minecraft? Download it again."

I have submitted a ticket to Mojang with screenshots of everything so hopefully, we will be able to figure this out soon.
