Cannot backup save games

Not all games have cloud saves. Some games put their save games in the my documents or saved games folder in windows, so I can back those up manually.

The issue is some games, Darksiders 3 for example, put their saved games in the encrypted container. I cannot manually copy the save game out. Windows gives me a permission error. If I uninstall the game, the save game is gone. There is no way I can figure
out how to back it up. I had to refresh windows on my PC and was unable to figure out a way to save my Darksiders 3 progress.

Is there a solution to this??

Hi,

Many Game Pass games have their saves in the AppData folder.

I haven't tried Darksiders but I know this is where many saves go as the saves for The Outer Worlds for Game Pass are located there.

That works to backup data for Outer Worlds. But some games (Darksiders III) put the save game in a folder that has a lock icon on it, I believe the file is encrypted and when I try and copy it out Windows throws an error. Was wondering if there is any
way around that.

That feature is cross-save and, unfortunately, not all games support it. If the title is tagged as “Play Anywhere” then it supports cross save. There are also non play anywhere titles that support cross save (Ori for example).

Safest bet is if its not tagged as “Play Anywhere” then assume it doesn’t support cross save. Outer Worlds on PC doesn’t even have cloud save.

The saves should be in App Data local.

Not all Game Pass games sync progress between the two versions on PC and Xbox. My Time At Potia, Dead Cells, Demons Tilt and Outerworlds is an example of this.
