cancel Xbox account for PC remove alias

You can't actually cancel the account. All you can do is stop using it and let it go inactive.

Xbox accounts only 'cancel' after 5 years of you not logging into them at all. After that time, your gamertag will be recycled.. allowing another to use the name you originally chose. After that 5 years, I believe that all your data on that account is
removed, deleted.. and only the gamertag itself will go back into the 'pool' to be used again.

Will the 2FA be switched to the new email that I want to sit it to?

Last question will my account still have ties to my original alias or will everything be transferred over to the new alias?|

Thank you for responding, In this case when you are updating the primary alias to the account you are simply removing the old primary alias and adding a new one. In this case when you selected to remove your alias to replace it with his alias you deleted
the old email depending on what the domain was.

"Note If you choose to remove an alias that uses a Microsoft domain such as @hotmail.com, @outlook.com, or @live.com, that alias will be completely deleted and will not be available
to sign in to any Microsoft services.

To remove the email address you no longer use to sign in to your account, select
Remove next to that alias on the Manage your account aliases page, and then follow the instructions provided.

Important Do not remove this email address if you still want to use it to send and receive email messages."

So once you have associated an Xbox account with a Microsoft account it will always be linked together and there will be no way of actually transferring the Xbox account to another Microsoft account. Another option would be to start a new account for yourself
so that your son may keep the account with the new alias.
