Can your console get hacked/viruses from an old game disc?

Heya everyone, I apologize if this post is very brain dead and such but I would genuinely like to know.

I recently got the Series X and had a old collection of games that I haven't played or touched in 5 years.. until now.

I put one of the discs in and it said that the game required an update which confused me. I would like to know if this is nothing to worry about.

A lot of games I own are pre-owned and I got them from EB Games (my local game store) and this has never shown up on older generation consoles that i own.

Feel free to laugh or mock me but I'd like a response if that's OK. And happy new years.

Hi,

Xbox isn't like a PC, it's a closed/locked down system, it can't get viruses. Computer viruses are man made, usually by criminals, you won't find them on game discs. The Xbox console can only run digitally signed content. Even if you plugged in a USB drive full of PC viruses the console still wouldn't be infected.

As for game updates, this is common. Nothing to worry about. The updates are safe.

Browsers on consoles are a security risk for viruses & that's why the PS3 Network got hacked... Just use your desktop computer, to surf the web.. Good Idea, about the DIMM expansion slots though..
