The runtimes aren't compatible steam only has 3 runtimes

Mac windows or Linux ala proton not Sony or xbox both have to.make windows runtimes for them to work on steam

You can run cloud games from. a.steam device like steam.deck or pc

When you click on steam.Games they specifically mention what devices they work with

Xbox and other consoles aren't part of that

Why would you think 10 year old hardware would run a game that give 3-5 year old pcs trouble

Your drive will work the same on Series X as it does on Xbox One and you won't need to format it.

However, Series X games or Xbox One games with Series X enhancements will not run from that drive and will either need to be installed internally or to an external SSD designed for Series X/S.

Your hard drive will be too slow for Series X games. They can be stored there, but not run from there.

Series X|S optimised games can only run on either the internal storage or expansion card. You can 'store' Series X|S on a USB hard drive/SSD for later but you can't play them from these drives as they're not fast enough.

Xbox One games that are not optimised for Series X|S can be run from USB Storage.
