Can you play multiplayer in a shared backwards compatible game

I am trying to see if it is possible to play a backwards compatible game on a shared second Xbox. We have two Xbox Series X consoles in our house. We have one set as home and another as the second.

We are trying to play multiplayer in a backwards compatible game at the same time. The game is Black Ops 2 and this may be a limitation of the game and not the Xbox. The game is a digital copy.

On both Xbox’s we can log into each of our accounts and can both launch the game. We can both play online separately but when trying to join a party from the xbox 360 emulated home or a game from the xbox 360 menu or in game it cannot join the game session.

This may just be a limitation of the game but wondering if maybe having two physical copies of the game might allow us to join. I’m not certain if both trying to connect with the same digital copy is causing the problem. We are able to play modern games like this but maybe it’s a limitation of the Xbox 360 environment

Hello kilegram, sorry to hear you're having trouble with your game.

There isn't an issue with playing the game via the sharing system. However the issue may be if you and the other person are also sharing the Gold membership. Although it can be shared to other accounts via the Home setting online play via God is not shared to backwards compatible titles which means that each account would need their own membership.

You can't vote for Backwards Compatibility anymore, but You can share this idea on Xbox Ideas, creat a post for voting in every game that is not avaliable in backwards compatibility yet

Multiplayer between Xbox One and Xbox 360 in Minecraft is not possible, as those are two different game versions.

You can only play backward compatible Xbox 360 games on your Xbox One with your friend. A list of games you can play with your friend are listed here: https://www.xbox.com/xbox-one/backward-compatibility/available-games

Also be aware, that not all games from that list support online multiplayer.

Hello there,

every Xbox 360 and or Xbox one game you can play via backwards compatibility on your series X/S share the same multiplayer network, so yes you can play those games with your friends across different generations of Xbox. However for future games releasing
on Xbox one and series X/S separately, I can't confirm that it will work a 100%.

I'm surprised that backwards compatibility doesn't have more votes. I'd like to see backwards compatibility, or at the least the ability to play multiplayer with friends playing the same game on Xbox 360
