Can you get an open NAT with 5G broadband?

Our home wifi is very low (8mps) so we got an E 5G home hub. Except both our Xbox X would only get a closed NAT type meaning joining party chat wouldn’t work.

I’m not sure how to go around this as I’m not sure what’s causing it to be closed.

When my husband connects the Xbox to his phone data it works fine so why does the hub, which ideally we need for stronger/better internet is causing us issues?

Does anyone have a fix or okays Xbox fine with a 5G hub?

I have a feeling the issue is with EE. I believe they use CGNAT which results in a double NAT as your router doesnt get its own public IP and is shared.

Would you know of a network that would allow an open network? Other than EE?

fyi, I called EE (broadband) about the port forwarding cos even after opening the ports it wasn't working and the girl asked me to split the 2 broadband bands (2.4G and the 5G) - and that fixed it...xbox D/L speed immediately shot up from 500kbps to 56Mbps...

In case you can help someone else with that info.

Also, may I ask why you’re using a 4G mobile WiFi hotspot (MiFi) and not fibre broadband (FTTH/FTTP or FTTC)? Is there not great coverage with not many ISPs available in your area, or are you travelling so a portable network device is more ideal?

EE/BT do offer 5G MiFi contracts and fibre broadband options (both Home and Business types) if you want to consider upgrading:

Hi, as you are using a 4G service this is normal, broadband ISP's usually use NAT'd private ip addresses so NAT has already taken place once before it gets to your modem/router then its NAT'd again meaning you get a strict NAT. Nothing you can do I'm afraid
that is the nature of that broadband service
