Can you change the email on my account

We appreciate you for sharing this with us and welcome to Xbox Forums.

I completely understand the importance of changing the email address of your Microsoft account that went inactive few years ago. Just to set proper expectations, for the privacy and security of your account, forums and customer support (live chat or phone) do not have an option to change the email address of the account on your behalf. Any changes of the account information should be completed from your end or the account owner's end. Good thing that you got me now, I would love to share to you the information or guide of what we can do about this in order for you to get back online.

Before we proceed, I will be asking you few questions that will help us understand further:

• Do you still remember the date the last time you have access to your account using its password?
  
• May I know the reason of losing access to this account?
  
• What steps you have taken to gain access to this account?
  
• Just to confirm, can we sign in the account to http://account.microsoft.com/ ?
  

In the meantime, you can proceed and change the email on your Microsoft account, please follow these steps:



1. Go to account.microsoft.com and sign in with your current email and password.

2. Click on "Your info" tab.

3. Click on "Manage how you sign in to Microsoft" option.

4. Click on "Add email" option.

5. Enter your new email address and click on "Add".

6. You will receive a verification code on your new email address. Enter the code and click on "Verify".

7. Once your new email address is verified, click on "Make primary" option next to your new email address.

8. You will be prompted to sign out and sign back in with your new email address.

If you are unable to change your email address using the above steps, please let me know so we can check other options further. Also, if you receive an error message for this, please send us a screenshot.

This can only work if your emails are NOT hotmail, outlook or live emails as those are Microsoft email addresses. That may be the cause of your problem. You can not change TO an email that is a Microsoft email. You can change a Microsoft email to any other
non Microsoft email, though.

You can switch email addresses between the accounts only if they are not Hotmail, Outlook or Live emails. You can NOT switch gamertags between Microsoft accounts in any way.

You can change and update the email address. If an email has been used on an account you cannot transfer to it.
