Can no longer play online with old compatibility Xbox 360 games on Xbox One S

Its more than possible, its real. If you've got a game that has multiplayer or co-op and you're playing it online on the Xbox 360 you're bound to have run into an Xbox One player at some point. Assuming the game is something with backwards compatibility
features. The Xbox One runs what's basically a simulation of the 360's UI to play backwards compatible games. However, its impossible to play two different versions of a game. You can't play a title that was released on the 360 and the Xbox One and expect
to be able to play it with the person who has the Xbox One version. So basically you can play 360 games online or offline on the Xbox One but not the other way around.

In short, can you? Yes. Just only on Xbox 360 games that are compatible with the Xbox One.

Could be a few things causing this.

1. Password for account is longer than 16 characters. Change password to something less than 16 characters.

2. Two step verification is turned on. Turn off two step verification or use app password.


3. (Most likely) Gamer tag was changed recently and profile needs to be redownloaded on the 360 emulator side of things. Follow these steps:

A. Load any 360 game.

B. Hit the start and select buttons on the controller (small round buttons on either side of the big xbox button) at same time.

C. This will bring up the 360 guide with a choice to download profile. Enter in email and password and this will redownload the profile to the 360 emulator side of things and should fix your problem.

Thanks for your reply and advice.

My son had changed his gamertag so it was the 3rd option you gave me. All logged in now with his new gamertag and I now have one happy son back on Xbox Live for his old 360 games.
