I believe that Ark Survival Evolved is not a cross platform game. I understand you and your friend are using Windows 10 but there is no cross play with Ark Survival Evolved between Xbox GamePass Beta and Steam.

Hi, the tech from support had control of my PC for like 40 minutes or more. He ran /sfc scannows, several long commands in powershell relating to the app store and the xbox app. I didn't pay attention to what he did, but it appeared extensive.

Last night I ended up deleting a bunch of files off of my C:/, enough to make the game fit and it installed fine and I've been playing since. It very well seems to me that some kind of Windows security is preventing me from doing this. But I have zero patience for troubleshooting these sorts of problems, so I figured I would post my story and maybe tip someone else off in the future if they also run into this weird issue and error code.

So to make sure I've read you right, the Xbox app on Windows 10 isn't letting your game download to the drive you would prefer (H--it's only allowing you to download it to your default drive (C, and you've already been on with support for the issue, but you got disconnected from them.

Bear with me--I know you've done a lot of troubleshooting, but I don't have a way of knowing exactly what you have done, so it's possible you may have tried some of the below already.

Repairing the apps:

I don’t expect you to do this yourself—this is built into Windows 10. Review the article here: Repair apps and programs in Windows 10 (microsoft.com). Follow the steps to run the repair tool on the Xbox App. I always recommend restarting the PC after any repair tool is run, so it’s a good idea to do that here too.

If the problem persists, then we can try repairing the entire set of Windows Store Apps (the Xbox and the Microsoft Store apps are both classified as Windows Store Apps). Review this article from our Xbox support site: Troubleshoot performance and stability issues in PC games | Xbox Support. I would focus on the first section, “Run the Windows Store Apps troubleshooter.” When you complete those steps, you’ll need to restart your computer, so make sure you’re not in the middle of work when you’re doing this.

Running System File Checker on Windows 10:

If the above doesn't fix the problem, then I would skip straight to running System File Checker. As with many tools and troubleshooting for Windows 10, it's always a good idea to have your files backed up on OneDrive or an external hard drive that you prefer before continuing.

Detailed instructions on how to successfully run System File Checker and have it repair Windows 10 (which may in turn repair Xbox app dependencies) can be found at Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files (microsoft.com). I wouldn't skip any steps in that guide.

Same issue here. Extensive troubleshooting with no fixes. Starting to tire of Window's lack of functionality.
