    Can I use Xbox One TV functionality on a DirecTV-ready TV w/o STB?


    I have a DirecTV-ready 4k TV. I am about to drop my set top box as it is no longer needed to get DirecTV access. I also run my TV through my Xbox One. Will I break any of my Xbox functionality if I eliminate the STB? If not, is there a particular
    way I need to connect the TV to my Xbox in order to preserve the normal TV functionality?

    DirecTV remote disabled

    I can watch tv through the xbox one, view the guide, and change channels. I can use the DirecTV remote to power on/off the DirecTV DVR/Receiver and tv, and adjust volume on the tv, but I cannot use the remote to play DVR recordings from the DirecTV DVR/Receiver
    through the xbox one to display on the tv. I also cannot use the xbox one to play DVR recordings that were recorded on the DirecTV DVR/Receiver.

    Do I need to just give up on the recommended installation and watching tv through the xbox one and revert back to a direct connection from the DirecTV DVR/Receiver to the tv?

    Really? No passive HDMI pass-through?

    I too was disappointed that I would need to have XBOX ONE on to watch TV using that input. I have DirecTV and decided I really did want the Live TV functionality. However, there is no way I was going to deal wiith my wife and kids trying to watch TV and
    having to turn on XBOX to do so. The best workaround for me was to put an HDMI in from DirecTV to the XBOX One but also use a component video out of DirecTV box directly to my TV. This allows two ways to watch TV on my setup. Everyone happy. In all hoensty.
    passive HDMI would be terrible as there would surely be deterioration in the picture quality.

    Worldwide means outside the US, too - my friend ;-)

    I.e. I really do need to connect a seperate STB to the Xbox one in order to enjoy live tv even if (or although) I am using a smart tv? Does this make any sense? The idea of a smart tv is to live w/o any extra STB's...

    Is there a possibility to directly feed in the tv signal to the Xbox one?

    What about K4meltreiber's input of using the bi-directional LAN cables inside an HDMI cable to control the built in STB?

    In comparison with the PS4 the feature "live tv" of the Xbox one was a strrong argument of the "all in one entertainment system"... I am looking forward to hear about any technical solution. As I own a premium smart tv I won't by a extra STB - sorry!

    direct tv not working

    Originally watching TV through the Xbox with Directv worked fine for me - I have a Directv HR20 STB. Two days ago all the sudden the Xbox One couldn't recognize the signal from the STB - couldn't watch TV at all or even access the oneguide. I tried swapping
    HDMI cables, changing the surround sound setting back to stereo, etc.. Nothing worked until I unplugged the Xbox One for 10 sec and then restarted it - then it could see the TV signal just fine. Now it works but hopefully this doesn't continue to happen.

    Clearly there is a software glitch here..

    The above links are for device specific info. DirecTV provides a number of different STB (sat box)'s. They are all different.

    I am sorry to hear about the issue. To get a better idea of what is at play here, the following information is very useful.

    1. Make & Model of STB (cable/sat box)

    2. TV Provider

    3. Layout (example: STB HDMI Xbox One HDMI TV) (please note splitters and hubs).

    Xbox 1 TV - Unable to find signal when connected

    Hey, I was having the same issue with Verizon Fios and DirecTV. I used the xbox one supplied hdmi cable from the cable box to xbox one. The problem was that I didn't have a high quality HDMI cable running from the xbox one to the tv. There is a handshake
    that the tv and the cable box perform to allow signal to be passed thru. So make sure that all cables from STB to xbox one and from xbox one to tv are the HDMI cables w/ ethernet. Everything worked perfect for me after that. Including netflix which would allow
    me to watch some shows and others it would have trouble playing back.

    No Picture/Sound with DirecTV - Sync Issues?

    I can stay connected for about a week and then it will stop syncing with hy directv STB. A hard reset of the Xbox will correct the issue. Also, when it stops working it seems like that is the time when I say Xbox On and the Xbox doesn't send any IR signals
    to my receiver, tv and stb because nothing else turns on. Then when I turn on manually I can't see or hear the TV anymore. I've set the STB to 720p and no surround sound.
