    I have a external HDD for my xbox and when I turn my xbox off at the switch it causes a strange glitch to happen to my drive, the games stored on my drive don't show up even though the drive says there's somthing on it and knows it's plugged in but even stranger if I turn my console off leave it for an hour or two then turn it off at the switch the problem doesn't occur.

    So I want to check if something is wrong with the drive or not.

    You’re interrupting the shutdown process which is likely causing your drive to be re-indexed when you restart the machine, or otherwise interrupting updates and other processes. Try making sure the Xbox has completely shut down before doing so. I also suggest setting it to power saving since this seems to be a concern of yours, which will prevent those updates.

    Hi,

    Unfortunately there are no tools on the Xbox console to check the health of an external storage device. To check your drive you'd need to do this on a PC using either the software from the manufacturer or some other applications. You need to format the drive back to PC usage to do this though.

    Is it normal for the glitch I mentioned to occur when power to the drive cuts of before its fully powered down or is it a problem with my drive specifically ?
