Can I upgrade my RAM?

I have just bought a laptop (Geo Book 240 - it was on special offer) and it says that it has 4GB RAM, myinitial intention was purely to use it for work. I realise that isn't really a lot and want to have at least 8GB if I want to stream or do any gaming. Now, this is where my brain shuts down. Apparently I have LPDDR RAM, and I thought this meant it was soldered to the motherboard. However, according to Task Manager, I am only using 2 of 4 slots DIMM RAM. Does this mean that 2 slots are free to add another 4GB RAM, I'm thinking slots 1 & 3 (presumably 2 lots of 2GB as 2 slots would be taken up for the other 4GB) or does it mean it has slots 2 and 4 soldered onto, such that the RAM is covering slots 1 & 3? I want to avoid taking it somewhere and asking them to do something if its blatantly obvious that it can't or shouldn't be done and end up bricking my new laptop. Please help!

some of the geo books have a removable cover on the under side, just a small rectangle where a ram module can be added as most of them have 4GB pre soldered to the mainboard and usually have 1 extra slot for upgrade. if not an access panel then you would need to open and remove the bottom cover to check if you can add, swap out a module, but even then some of them are like tablets inside, just the mainboard with nothing removable.

remember to check warranty status in the country you are in, some countries the warranty is void once opened, some countries you can open and upgrade mem and storage but nothing else.

you can use a fast sd card but it usually makes no difference as it is still a lot slower than ram, unfortunately you may be stuck for an upgrade.

Thanks for that, I appreciate your reply. There is no easy access port on my bottom (oo-er Missus!) its a very slim laptop and I'm beginning to think that this means its all well soldered in. Do you know if its possible to add RAM externally through a USB port? I seem to remember there was a method of doing it via virtual memory, back in the day, but did this go out of style or does it just not give any noticeable improvement with newer laptops?

First off, is the RAM on the supported list in your motherboard or PC manual?

Second, you should always add RAM in pairs, and multiples of 4GB. With only 2 sticks you may be activating dual channel mode on mismatched RAM.

You need to call your motherboard or computer manufacturer for support

Please double check your Motherboard and Processor specifications.
If the new RAM that you’re using has a higher speed than the old RAM, probably that’s the reason

If the speed and the rest of specifications is the same and if your motherboard supports that quantity

Could be that the RAM is damaged, try cleaning carefully and try again

If the issue persist the best option is return this RAM and get a new one
