    Can I swap a reformatted xbox hard drive between xbox and pc?


    My laptop doesn't have space for the games I already own on it, however I can't afford another hard drive. If I went through the process of reformatting my Seagate external hard drive, would I still be able to use it on my console? I don't want to reformat my hard drive and then have it be unusable on what I'd really need it for just because I wanted to play a game with mods.

    Hi Gert, I hope you're doing well. I am an Independent advisor and I am here to help you.

    You can still use your External Hard Drive on your console if you reformat it on your PC. Reformatting the external hard drive on a PC is one of the ways how to reformat and use it on your console. As long as the file system is set to NTFS, you will be able to use it on your Xbox console.

    Thr drive is formatted for Xbox or PC, you can’t swap them back and forth without reformatting the drive.

    The Xbox data transfer cable is only meant to transfer data between Xbox hard drives. Also, 3rd party cables can cause problems with reformatting the hard drive so you lose everything, including hard drive space sometimes.

    A hard drive can't be used on both an Xbox and PC at the same time without reformatting it. So when you plugged it into your PC, it would have wiped the drive and reformatted it for use on the PC. If you reformat it for use on the Xbox, it will wipe anything you added to it from the PC.
