    Can I set my Xbox 1 S Vertically on its LEFT side?


    I'm planning to get a stand for my system but I need to know if it is ok to set my Xbox 1S on it's left side vertically. Everything I look up says it is ok to set it vertically WITH its stand, but nothing specifies if both sides are ok or only one side. Right now, it's the only way I can set it without its top vent being blocked by the side of my bookshelf.

    If this isn't ok/safe for my system, how come? Is there any difference to setting it on its left side compared to setting it on its right?

    There are intakes on the left side, air is drawn across the console and exhausted. To be safe, please use the stand, or leave your console horizontal.

    As was pointed out, there are air intakes on the left side of the console...if you then stand the console on it's left side, you will be blocking the intakes which will mean air won't get into the console and, thus, it will likely overheat.

    Xbox ventilation

    Having your Xbox One S in a vertical position(without stand) will effectively block the side air vent. This will cause insignificant ventilation, resulting in the console overheating and shutting down and possible damage.

    The Xbox One S requires a stand to be used in vertical position, which will allow proper airflow/ventilation.
