Can I refund my Minecraft purchase from the Play Store?

If you have trouble doing so you have to report it to Google support, Microsoft does not manage that store.

If you purchased Minecraft from Microsoft, then you can request a refund here, xbox.com/refund. If you got the game from a different digital store, then you will need to contact them to get a refund.

I have the same problem on my son's newly purchased copy of Minecraft Xbox One Edition. The problem is he can't play the game without downloading the FREE! update. But it's not free when you get directed to the Xbox store. So frustrating! How can
we get around this? otherwise we'll be bringing it back to the store for a refund.

The disc-based version is no longer being updated. If you bought a used copy of the game, and the store allows you to return it, I would do so, then buy "Minecraft" digitally from the Microsoft Store.

If you purchased the game through the Play store, then it is them who you need to ask for a refund. Microsoft will not give you a refund for a purchase from another store.
