Can I refund a digital gift?

My friend recently bought me Red Dead Redemption 2. However, I'm on pc and he is on Xbox. He bought the Xbox version online thinking I could download and play it on pc, and when I said I didn't think it would work, he assured me he had read several threads and that it would. I redeemed the code, and it turns out it didn't work. I know he can't refund it on his end, but I was wondering if I could refund it on my end and send him the money. Is there a way to do this?

No. Only the person who bought it would be able to refund a gift since they bought it, but once it's been redeemed it's non-refundable.

Side note: Keep in mind that you can only gift something to a person that is in your same region

If you got it as a digital gift then you can request a refund at https://xbox.com/refund. However if you purchased it as a card from a store then only they can offer a refund

I do apologize for the inconvenience, It looks like the game was not properly gifted if he did not receive the Game pass, I would recommend attempting to Request
a Refund and then re-gifting the game to your sons account. You can always follow the "Help with giving digital games
as gifts" article for assistance in purchasing as a gift.

Unfortunately there is not way to transfer V-bucks from one account to another. Also something to note is that virtual currency like V-Bucks is content that cannot be bought and sent as a gift. That information can be found here:

Only digital content in the Microsoft Store that has an option "Buy as Gift" is able to be sent as a gift to someone else and the recipient has to be in the same region the content was purchased from.

The only thing I can suggest is to request a refund and then buy a gift card for the other person so they can buy the VBucks with the gift card. Here is a link going over the refund process:
