Can I play this game solo?

So, after the first mission I thought I'd try the second story mission - there were two other players of much higher level in my game killing all of the mobs (apart from in the 'darkness' section). This meant I had pretty much nothing to do, so even if you
ignore people they still affect your game - it's a shame you can't turn this off and just play solo through the story missions. I also miss the split screen local play from the halo games, as my wife and I enjoyed to play those together.

I only played a couple of Strike missions because they were tied to the bounty; other than that I play solo.

Despite the fact that I'm a 95% solo gamer and 5% multiplayer gamer, I understand your desire to play split screen with your wife.

Unfortunately, split screen won't work for a game like Destiny. It worked well for the Halo games, but the player needs the screen all to themself in Destiny.

Public events I do like to do with other people.

For other things? Unless I'm doing a strike (or if I ever do a raid), I usually just ignore other people.

Sometimes I do go over and shoot enemies with them. If I'm on patrol it's more likely to happen.

But for the most part, I just get out of their ways

you can play most of the story single player, there are strike missions that if your by your self it will pair you with two other people.
