Can I play PC games with Xbox wireless receiver?

I’ve had an Xbox 360 for a couple of years and I recently got a computer, and I was wondering if I were to buy the Xbox wireless receiver to use my controller with my PC would I be able to play games that are not made for Xbox with my controller or what I need to buy a controller that supports all games

note: I’m not talking about games that are only for PC and are not supported by controller I am talking about games that are not an Xbox or Microsoft game.

XBOX controller is not used on the PC. If you want to play on the PC with XBOX controller you need Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver

The Xbox 360 wireless controller won't work with the play and charge kit on it's own on a PC. The Controller always remains wireless, it can't be changed to a wired controller. To use a 360 wireless controller you'll need an Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver.
Microsoft no longer make these, but it is possible to buy a third party receiver, although installing them can be troublesome.

The Play and charge can be used with the PC, but only to charge the controller. The driver is only designed to automatically sync the controller to the Gaming receiver.

Only the Xbox One controller can be turned into a wired controller with an Xbox One Play and Charge, or a standard USB to Micro USB cable.

I'm PC and console gamer. I built my own gaming PC.

Most single player games on my PC I use a controller to play which either my Series X|S controller or my Xbox One controller. Most PC games have controller support from Steam, Epic Games and Origin. There's nothing to configure, just plug and play.

The only games I don't play with controllers are strategy titles such as the Total War titles and Civilization.

Thanks for asking! I have the just straight up wired controller and it's an easy setup for me, but if you aren't looking to dump money into yet another controller model, the link for setting up the 360 controller to your PC has some info towards the end
in that guide about the wireless controller setup.

So you definitely can use your wireless controller, it just requires the adapter. There's more on that here:

A standard Xbox 360 wireless controller can be connected to a Windows PC, but you must have an Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver to play games, even if you have an Xbox 360 Play & Charge Kit.

Unfortunately the Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver is no longer being manufactured by Micrososft but you can look for it on second hand websites
