Sorry, PlayAnywhere only works with digital purchases. Digital purchases are tied to a specific account which was used to buy it in the first place, hence you can't gift them like physical games. If you meant game sharing a digital purchase over multiple
accounts on a single family console, then I am afraid it would not be PlayAnywhere for accounts other than the one which was used to purchase the game digitally. Hope this helps.

Sorry, I discussed this topic with another moderator and I realised that there may have been a misunderstanding from my side. I thought you redeemed a game code (which you can’t transfer to another account) and not a gift card like Microsoft balance.

So if it’s a gift card, then you actually can purchase any game as a gift and this is a possible workaround to transfer the game to another account. So the information provided by the virtual automated support agent was technically true.
