    I'm one of those parents who think to myself "I don't want my kids exposed to shooting games or gta 5 type games until they're older as they are violent" as I don't play them until they're fast asleep, but I also wonder why I do it?

    Life is hard and mean heck even cruel to some, why do us parents naturally block the bad from our children? Obviously it's an easy answer that we love and protect our children, but I can't help but think blocking the negatives of life can make a negative effect.

    Like in a game say my son sees me shoot someone instantly I'd think (I don't want my kid seeing and copying this in person) but at the same time I feel blocking the negatives stops them from learning to protect/prevent things themselves.

    Lets say there's some apocalypse going down and my son is 10 years old and I blocked him from everything to protect him and say I died, how is my son going to anyway protect himself now from being sheltered from real life horror? Sure there's not gonna be an apocalypse anytime soon but even an home invasion and I get stabbed I pray my son will 1. run for his life if possible or if he's cornered 2. you grab the closest sharp/blunt object and you fight for your life.
