Can I get a refund for my Xbox Series X?

Not really...

Xbox Series X games / upgrades / updates has to be installed onto the Series X internal or expansion card SSD,

You can have Xbox One games on your external hard drive that will get an Series X upgrade but the games will need to be transferred to the Series X and then the Series X upgrade will need to be downloaded onto the Series X SSD,

As an example...

I have Marvel Avengers on my external hard drive that will get the Series X upgrade and I will transfer the game over to the Series X SSD ready to download and update the game to the Series X version when available.

If its hooked to your Microsoft account, you can play it if you get an Xbox or sign into your Microsoft account on an xbox (Xbox One/series X/S) other than that, its basically junk unless you can get a refund

The Xbox One version can be played on a Series S/X, but the One version won't be released until April 4. If you were to buy the digital deluxe edition of the game, you would get both the One version and the Series S/X versions of the game.

You can still play the Xbox One version of the game, but I'm afraid you will not get the best gaming experience possible considering the console you are using. In addition to this, you will not be able to play online with users who are playing on the Series S/X version.

If you are sure the game cannot be played on the Xbox One, and the game is not available in the Cloud as part of Game Pass Ultimate, then you either get a refund xbox.com/refund or purchase an Xbox Series X or S to play it.
