Yes you can turn it off in BC2. I turned mine off before I ever fired a shot. Then when I played at a friend's house who had not turned it off it was noticeable.

I use Ni-Mh venom battery packs in mine.

After a while they lose their charge quite quick but very reasonable price, had mine for about 4 years and now looking at getting some new ones.
