Can I connect Xbox One X front USB port to an external storage with a 14Tb Sata disk ?

Hi guys,

I really have lots of local saved games and already with 1tb internal, 4tb and 5tb external disks on my XBox One X.

I saw a product from Fantom Drives that is a plugin case using front USB 3.0 port and a dock with models from 1TB to 14TB disks but wonder what's the max usb storage capacity supported ??

BTW, I never had the best experience with this front port. Always much faster using the back ports.

Hi there!

Your Xbox One X's has three USB 3.0 ports (that includes the front). So it should be okay to use the front port for external devices.

You can surely use 14TB of external. But please note that when connecting external drives via USB 3.0, do not connect any single drive larger than 16 TB, and no more than three external drives total at the same time. External storage larger than that will not work.

Bear in mind, even faster SSD external storage only works for Xbox One and Xbox One X enhanced games. They won't work with Series X|S games. You can store these games on these drives, but you can't play them.

NVME is a waste of money as the USB 3.1 ports maximum bandwidth is 5Gb/s (or 500MB/s).

If you want an SSD for your Xbox One or Xbox One X enhanced games, then your best choice is a SATA SSD connected either via a SATA to USB 3.1 adaptor or an USB 3.1 external drive enclosure.

You have to connect the Kinect to the rear USB (not the front USB). There will be two USB Ports on the front of the Xbox that you can plug a storage device. You can use two USB storage units, but only 16Gb per USB (total 32Gb).
If the external hard drive is larger than that 16Gb, the rest of memory will not be used.

Hello friend, yes it is possible. Simply connect them to the console's USB ports. In addition to the front door, it has two more ports at the back that can be used to connect the controls or external disks.

Consider this alternative: as far as I know, this HDD firmware-specific limitation only exists on the Xbox 360 when connected to the console's SATA port (through the slot where you fit in the proprietary enclosure). There was a software update last
year that allowed Xbox 360s to use USB external hard drives as game storage (much like what the Xbox One can do), so you can use an external hard drive (or basically any bare drive in a USB enclosure), up to 2TB in size, and connect it to
your Xbox 360 for storing/loading games.

Would you explain this process to me (sorry in advance if it's a silly question)? How would I connect the 320GB hard drive using the console's SATA port? I don't have the slim 360.

Do I connect the hard drive to the Xbox's USB port using USB to SATA? Would I have to disassemble the HDD casing to get to the actual hard drive?
