Can hear everything fine through headset, but no one can hear me?

I can hear everything fine through my headphones (their afterglow lvl 3) but for some reason no one can hear me. I've tried everything from hard reset to changing NAT type. The microphone works on my phone but not the Xbox.

The headset having the issue is the Xbox One default headset. I bought a new one from gamestop today thinking my headset was broken, but the new headset has the exact same problem. I can talk in party chat and game chat using my kinect, so privacy settings
aren't the issue. Also, if I turn the kinect off and only use the headset it still has the same issue. Both mics are clearly receiving power because the slash in the mute button will light up when I press it. Both mics are also in excellent condition. Please
help, I have to be unreasonably close to the kinect for it to pick my voice up at a comfortable volume. My back and neck are hurting from leaning forward.
