Can a wireless Xbox 360 controller on older model be used to play games?

I have a second generation I believe wireless Xbox 360 controller, it's not the new Xbox console or the Xbox one remote it's the previous one that used to get the red ring. Just wondering if that can be used to play games on my computer that runs Windows 11? I was told I would have to get a Windows adapter to wire it to the computer in order to this? Or is there a better option?

I've played with it on my PC. I connected it with an old USB (I think micro) cable. The cable to load or upgrade the controller.

EDIT:

Sorry I was wrong. I've played with a wired 360 controller and the PS3 controller had the micro USB !

I'm getting old .... ^¿^

2. red Ring of Death only affected the older model Xbox 360's it just overheated and stopped working.

3. You have to be the owner of the game to be able to play it, or some one can do a license transfer on your console, then you can play their games.

4. yes a xbox 360 controller can be connected to a pc or laptop to play games, but you need the xbox 360 wireless controller adapter for windows if the controller is wireless. If it is a wired controller, you just need to plug it in.

Dear sir. Which model of Xbox wireless controller are you using ? Note that the older Model 1537, will NOT work with your PC. You can see the model number in the battery compartment.

Thanks for asking! I have the just straight up wired controller and it's an easy setup for me, but if you aren't looking to dump money into yet another controller model, the link for setting up the 360 controller to your PC has some info towards the end
in that guide about the wireless controller setup.

"Note A standard Xbox 360 wireless controller can be connected to a Windows PC, but you must have an Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver to play games, even if you have an Xbox 360 Play & Charge Kit."

So you definitely can use your wireless controller, it just requires the adapter. There's more on that here:
