    Check microsoftstore.com to see if they have any there. It doesn't have to be from Microsoft though.

    you are right.. DO NOT buy the transfer cable on ebay (originates in China and sells for $8-10).

    Had a similar issue. My ethernet cable worked/still works on my original One but not the S or X. The solution was to buy a cat 6 ethernet cable.

    if you go the VGA route, there's a few things to keep in mind.



    The original grey VGA cable is no longer made/sold, from what I can tell. The original cable had an optical out in the housing. The new black one does not.



    No-name VGA cables ghost. Badly. As in I threw them out because they were unusable.



    Intec makes a VGA cable that has an optical out. i don't know what the ghosting is like, but the cable goes for about $12 on Amazon. If I was buying a VGA cable for an original model 360, that's the one I'd try.
