    Buttons on Xbox controller not responding


    The only buttons that seem to work are the home button, left joystick and the left and right triggers. I’ve tried switching my xbox off and back on, resetting my xbox, and removing the power cable. Please help

    to see if the buttons are registering and the issue is with the controller connect it to a PC. Download the game controller tester app from the MS Store.

    My name is AJ, I'm an Independent Advisor for the Xbox Community.

    * Please try power cycling both your console and the controller, like this:

    - While your controller is on, press and hold its Xbox button until it shuts down.

    - Remove your controller's batteries and the Micro-USB cable for a minute or two.

    - Press and hold your console's power button until it shuts down.

    - Remove all other external devices from your console's USB ports.

    - Unplug your console's power cord for 5 minutes.

    - Plug the power cord back in.

    - Turn your console on, plug your controller in, and check if the issues persist.

    * If this doesn't work, then the next thing to do would be to update your controller. Do you have a different controller we could use to navigate your console's dashboard and update your non-working controller? If you don't, then I'd suggest plugging your controller into a PC and updating it through the Xbox Accessories app.
