    Build 14942 - Xbox Sign-In solution


    for anyone in the windows insider program who may have recently experienced the problem where you cannot sign in to your gamertag on the xbox app, or other xbox games on windows, there is a solution. this information was found at: Announcing Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14942 for PC - Windows Experience Blog

    the cause for this is that "Service hosts are split into separate processes on PCs with 3.5 GB+ of RAM" starting with build 14942. the solution is as follows:

    • Run the following from an admin Command Prompt (or edit the registry accordingly):REG ADD HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\XblAuthManager /v SvcHostSplitDisable /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f
    • Reboot the system, so that XblAuthManager now shares a service host process with Windows Update and Background Intelligent Transfer Service.
    i just performed this fix, and now have no problems signing into games with my gamertag. hope this helps anyone who encounters this problem.

    This is noted for the new Insider Build 14942 with the fix at the bottom of the page under "IMPORTANT NOTE". Excerpt is here:

    IMPORTANT NOTE: Xbox sign-ins may fail, as well, as a result of service host separation. To fix this issue:

    1. Run the following from an admin Command Prompt (or edit the registry accordingly):

    REG ADD HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\XblAuthManager /v SvcHostSplitDisable /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f

    2. Reboot the system, so that XblAuthManager now shares a service host process with Windows Update and Background Intelligent Transfer Service.
