BUG - Cross platform play does not enable for child accounts no matter what settings you set. ...

Thanks. Sorry if I came across as harsh. Had to endure the Windows 10 update fiasco this month and disappointed a 10 year old tonight when he saw the post. So I was a bit cranky.

No worries. We all get that way since we are human but like I mentioned, our team is working on getting this fixed and we will keep you guys updated!

We honestly do want to make this work so everyone can game together and have a great time. We know our Fellow Xbox gamers want to play online with their friends cross platforms. So, we want to help make that happen.

Thats why kids need to play kids games not fortnite...

 

When i launched fortnite it said enabling crossplay in small letters for a second I dont know if it works because none of my friends are on if any one else sees this message please comment if crossplay works

 

If you have an Adult Microsoft account associated with your Xbox profile the latest version of Fortnite appears to prompt you to enable cross-platform play if you haven't done so already. There used to be a toggle option under game settings in Fornite to
do this. However, it appears that Microsoft is working on allowing cross-platform play for Child accounts as well (which is currently blocked, at least by Fortnite for Child account under 13 years old). There are new settings available on account.xbox.com
that allow parents to enable cross-platform play, as well as voice/text communication outside of Xbox live for Child accounts. However, these settings do not appear to be used by the Xbox One even with the latest November 2018 update. They don't appear in
the Xbox One UI when setting privacy and online safety options for Child accounts.

Hopefully, Microsoft will get this working soon. It looks like it's enabled on the web and Fortnite may have already updated their software to check the settings. But it doesn't look like the Xbox One system software included this capability in the November
2018 update.

 

Regarding children playing Fornite.

I believe each parent needs to make an informed decision for their own child. It's clear that Epic Games has lots of content that is targeted towards kids. Although there are weapons, the violence is more cartoon-like and not very
graphic (at least in my opinion, yours may differ). My son is 10 and his friends are age 10 - 12. Fortnite is the most popular video game at his school. Parents should take care to curate their child's friends list and I applaud Microsoft for
working to enable this capability while giving parents the option to limit chat/texts to a child's friends list. I know not every parent will do this, but we limit our son's friends list to only children he actually knows and plays with in real life. Makes
it easier to contact a parent if anything happens while playing online. He is only allowed to play the game when a parent is present so we can hear the conversations that are taking place. He is aware that both parents have access to his account and we review
chat messages, etc. Every parent should make an informed decision about what is appropriate for their child and take the time to make appropriate privacy and online settings, use Microsoft's family safety
features, and take time to review the online activity reports each week so you are aware of your child's activities. No system is perfect and your child could still be exposed to some inappropriate language or situations, but I would rather take
the time to educate my child about online safety, restrict his access where warranted, and allow him the freedom to play online games with his friends that we deem appropriate.

This is a known issue. Microsoft is working on a Fix, but there hasn't been any change.

I have the same issue with my Kids. Hopefully it's something that gets fixed soon.

 

Hi thanks for your interest and if you read up the posts a bit you will see posts where XBF Brad and colleagues have been posting useful updates, we have also been made aware that changes where made online to enble the settings but it seems we are waiting
for this to be reflected on the console itself before they will take effect. though as no ones told us the exact sequence of events néeded for this to all come together we are still slightly in the dark

Just wanted to reach out and provide an update:

The console still does not have anything on it to change the settings. So far the only way to change the parental settings for cross-play is still through our website.

Our update was released November 14 which we tried to include
the update for Cross-platform access for child accounts. We have received reports that there was issues applying the setting changes.
We are still working on correcting the issue so we hope by the next update the cross play feature will be fully functional and available to everyone.
