Hi, currently new parental controls are being tested in the insider preview. I don't use parental controls, so can't comment on content. I can say it is being flighted through the Insider rings relatively quickly. So shouldn't be too far out.

What Insider Preview are you talking about? Windows? Xbox? I want to test the feature too!

 

You can see and set the parental controls permissions on the web site now. They do not seem to do anything in game however. The cross play option does not appear in the Fortnite settings after the parental control settings are changed - even after restarting
the Xbox. Best guess is a future Xbox system update and possibly Fortnite update will be required for the parental control settings to be respected.

To see the parental controls for yourself:

1. Log into Xbox.com with the parent account.
2. Click the player icon in the top right to show the menu and click “Xbox Settings”.
3. Click “Privacy & Online Settings”.
4. Click the child account.
5. Adjust “You can communicate outside of Xbox Live with voice & text”. I assume setting to “In-game Friends” allows voice and text chat with Epic friends only.
6. Scroll down and click “Submit”.
7. Scroll up and click “Xbox One/Windows 10 Online Safety”.
8. For “You can play with people outside of Xbox Live” click “Allow”.
9. Scroll down and click “Submit” again.

 

Thanks for posting this, ive just checked and both my kids have the option defaulted to allow (which i agree with as a starting position).

Thank you! I see those options too and I've changed them for my kid.

Unfortunately it isn't visible in Fortnite yet.

Let's hope we'll get an xBox update soon

 

yep just tested and it currently doesn't seem to do anything, though i don't get a error saying cross platform play is blocked anymore

Yes hopefully real soon this will be working and everyone able to change it. I know the setting is in the works as Mellified posted. If I hear any update as to when it fully working I will let everyone know.

Everyone is still experiencing this issue!

Microsoft made a change on the Family website to 'enable something' but ttat's not enough to get your child to play crospplay in Fortnite.

My child just messaged me that today there was a Fortnite update but unfortunately that update didn't include this bug fix.

The question remains what are we waiting for? Who needs to update what?

Im willing to run beta software on the xBox if that would help. This is really taking a long time ...
