So with the new announcement of Halo coming to PC (finally!), I thought I'd break out the old Xbox Live account from several years ago. As it turns out you need an email and not the gamertag that you used with your Xbox account. Welp. I cannot for the life
of me remember something like that from 8+ years ago when I was 13 and the only thing that mattered was not doing homework and playing Xbox.

So what do I do?

First I tried the recover email option Microsoft has already. Did not work because the phone number that it was (possibly) linked to no longer belongs to us. So I move on to the recover account form. It has a ton of information to see if you are who you
say you are, but the basic stuff like *email you used* and *password* are on there. How am I supposed to remember something I've forgotten? Anyways, I tried the old credit card, that we *think* was used to purchase items on Xbox. And to top it off, when I
made the account, being young and dumb, I don't even remember the birthdate or the name I put in because I wanted to be "safe" and make sure no one had access to any information about me. Looking back on this now, was not such a great idea, but I digress.
Anywho, the application gets immediately denied, no manual review by a person, but shut down by our AI overlords.

Another try.

I sat trying every which way to contact Microsoft support on the phone so I could talk to an actual person. It took me at least 45 minutes to get to an actual representative because they for the love of god do NOT want to talk to you. That was ridiculous.
The worst part is, I find out that that Microsoft places the security and maintenance of the account solely in the owner's hands. I was told they cannot even see any of my information to help out and that the only way to even see it is to give them a confirmation
code that was sent to, you guessed it, the email that I DO NOT REMEMBER. Lovely.

Literally, no one has ever tried to login to the account I am trying to regain except me. That's pretty much the only way I can prove that I own the account. That and if they can look up the stuff that I purchased and compare it to the card that my mother
(I was like 13 at the time) used to purchase stuff on the account with.

I just want to see my old friends and maybe get the band back together again. Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can escalate this beyond basic tier support?

I know your frustration, but since a few years back, a "social engineer" managed to get access to accounts of other people with the "help" of untrained support personnel, Microsoft makes you jump through those hoops to really make sure you are the owner
of the account.

So if you don't even know "your" birthdate or your name you put into the account, how are they going to believe you are the owner of the account?

You don't have access to the phone number, no access to the email, don't know the credit card number, nor "your own" birthdate and name.

So basically, unless you somehow get hold of that information to be really able to prove ownership of the account, the support can't help you, as you could as well be a complete stranger trying to steal someone else's account.

I'm afraid, you've lost that account, unless you actually remember some of the information from back then.

MS takes account security VERY seriously.

The security feature of verifying the account with the code being sent is to make sure someone does not get mad at you and gets your gamertag and call them up and say hey this is my gamertag and I need to make changes to the account and messes up your account
because you beat them in a video game.

Sorry to hear that you're dealing with this inconvenience.

To be perfectly honest, your chances seem kind of slim. In order for any of our
customer support representatives to pull up any of your info, they will need you to remember and probably have access to your old security proofs so they can verify that you
are indeed the owner of the account.

If you only have the credit card that your mom used to pay with, the only thing that customer service would be able to do is see if it's stored in an account, but without some means to verify, that's all that they will be able to see.

If you want to, and have the patience for it, you can try to recover the account by following the steps outlined in

Lost Account Solution, but if you're unsuccessful, you'd more than likely have to try out a new account.

Basically, when we first set up my account we used an email address that my dad created purely for the xbox account, but now we can't access the account because it has recently decided to ask to to sign in with the email or else I can't get online but my
dad doesnt remember the password, and he can't remember enough details to successfully fill out the recovery questionnaire. I've tried several different methods but none have worked.
