Brand new Xbox One controller - Right D-Pad constantly taking input

Have you tried to check the controller test on the Xbox Accessories App?

Press the Xbox Guide Button > Settings > Devices & Connections > Controllers & Headsets > Enter Test Mode (Click on the Conical/Lab Flask Icon beside the three dots ...).

See if any button is being pressed on its own.

If it's damaged, you can send it for repairs.

You can try resetting your PDP controller. Follow these steps:

1. Power the XBOX one console on.
2. Plug the smaller end of the controllers USB-B micro cable into the top of the controller.
3. Hold down on the directional pad (D-Pad) and plug the larger side of the USB cable into the XBOX one console while still holding down.
4. The controllers red LED lights will illuminate and the controller will begin to vibrate. You may then release the down input on the directional pad (D-Pad)
5. Press A on the controller.
6. The controller will then stop vibrating and the LED lights will power off.
7. Fully rotate both joysticks in a complete clockwise motion and pull each trigger fully (LT and RT)
8. Press down on the directional pad (D-Pad)

The issue seems to apply to all the new D-pads with the audio jack and the better bumpers (not just the Covert Forces ones): The D-pad, which was clicky and responsive in the earlier controller version, is now silent and un-responsive. It takes a lot more
pressure, and even then, inputs are often missed. I bought one at Gamstop, had the problem, returned and exchanged it, and the replacement has the same problem.

Why would MS change something that worked so well? This is infuriating. There seems to be no solution other than tracking down an older-version controller for the One. Any hope of a design fix?

Control pad is an xbox one official one bought brand new when I purchased the console!
