Bought battlefield 2042 Xbox one S unable to join friend's Xbox one X

Hi , thanks for the answer. It's a shame as my son now won't play the game so £60 wasted and as it's a download he can't sell it on. Is there a way to tell in future if a game can, or can't, be played on the S and X consoles together please?

The game doesn't support crossplay across different generation of consoles. If by newest console you mean the Series X, then your son won't be able to play with him.

I'm having issues inside battlefield 2042 with inviting a friend (plays on xbox one X) and I play on Xbox series S, they are on my xbox friends list but not on my battlefield list, I tried typing their EA name and it doesn't show up, I had them look me up and the same for them...any ideas?
